Abstract:

There are two kinds of porn, non-violent and violent pornography, that is mainstream and violent pornography (in which of course there are sub categories but the base remains that there is one with violence and one without) and the general notion of people are that mainstream pornography is harmless and okay to watch. My research will point out the fact that there are specific elements that exist in mainstream porn that may contribute to an sexually aggressive behaviour in its viewers. Some of the prominent elements that will be looked at include objectification, inequality, positive pleasure responses to aggression, rape myths etc. The research will be presented in a ROL format drawing evidence and literaturesfrom the 1980’s to late 20’s , bringing in a content analysis of sorts to say that this much of this element is present in mainstream porn and its subsequent effect. With the evidence of the existence of these elements and its effects, one can further look at how to eliminate them and still provide an enriching and better sexual experience for everyone. I will also delve into how the role of education plays a huge role in the reduction and resistance of the negative effects of porn and how if porn can be used properly with adequate regulation, it can be a positive and safer place for sexual entertainment and awareness.
